The Abstract Mind of a Child vs. The Abstract Mind of an Adult

The Abstract Mind of a Child. Lexy's Glitter Plate

And the Abstract Mind of an Adult (or at least this adult). Not so abstract, huh.

Cutest cupcakes EVER!

My nephew's birthday party was a pajama party theme and these were the cupcakes. My sister in law did a fantastic job and I just had to take a picture. They're sleeping kids for the pajama theme and not dead babies (for you sickos out there). At first I thought their blankies were fondant but they're actually warmed up Starbursts that she rolled out flat then shaped into their blankets. So cute!!!

For those of you keeping track

Yes, I have a lot of pictures of Lexy on this blog. Kiernan is typically too cool to hang out with mom and would rather hang with his friends. I anticipate this will be the kid I have to drop off down the block so no one will see us together :) Lexy on the other hand is still firmly attached to my apron strings and at times is my conjoined twin. I will try harder to sneak a picture now and then.

She's a pro

Out of nowhere Lexy just told me The eyeball on my foot said Beep Beeeep Beep Beep

Girls are brave. Boys are chicken.

We were running around for no reason on Friday and decided to go to Scheels over in Sparks. We figured we'd have to battle our way through giant crowds but it actually wasn't bad. Know what I didn't expect in a sporting store? A giant Ferris Wheel! Lexy and I got inside before the boys and bought 4 tokens for the wheel. Kiernan took one look at it and decided he wasn't going to have anything to do with it. I looked at him, "Really?" I thought he was kidding. But no, he didn't want to do it. Lexy was still game so we stood in line.

At some point Lexy saw Kiernan standing at the second floor balcony and yelled as loud as she could, "Kiernan! You're a big chicken! You're a chiiiiicken!!!!" He later said, "I am NOT a chicken. I just wasn't in the mood." That was such a peaceful ferris wheel ride and we had a beautiful view of the mountains.

She misses the spider car something terrible

We heard a terrible rumor that the spider car at the Wells overpass had been removed. I drove by a few weeks ago and it was still where it's been since I was a little girl. Today Lexy and I went to Carrows aka The Spider Car restaurant and it was GONE!

Lexy's "I'm mad the Spider Car is gone and I'm gonna kick someone's butt!" look.

Know what makes a case of the "Kick butts" go away? Ice cream of course. Here she's asking the waitress to add two cherries to her sundae.

She said she's bring TWO CHERRIES!

Spider Car? What Spider Car??

The day after Halloween sales!

I keep saying I'm going to go and hit up the day after Halloween sales but never do. I planned on going alone but both kids decided to come along. We all threw our clothes on and ventured out in the rain. Our first stop was the Spirit Store. I told the kids they could both get a costume for next year. I didn't get a picture of Kiernan in his because I wouldn't let him take it out of the bag (I know I'm mean but he wanted to take it next door to his friend's sleepover). Lexy couldn't make up her mind so I helped her make it up for her.

Here's the cover shot of the costume she picked up

And here's Lexy at home in her costume. Please note the chain around her waist in the second shot with the wand by her head. She has been captured before the ball and held in chains against her will. But her face shows how brave she is.

So we bought strobe lights, more fog juice, skulls, goth boots and some other fun stuff. And I spent too much but Halloween is just too much fun!
Kiernan went trick or treating with the neighbors and Lexy and I went around the block. Mike dressed all in black with a half mask and claws and chased kids around the front yard. It was a most triumphant night.

Taking a walk

This will be the story of Kiernan's life; Him in front with Lexy running to catch up. It could also be subtitled Kiernan "borrows" Lexy's stuff then doesn't give it back until she's crying.

Someday I'll take more pictures with my real camera

But my phone is always closer. I just love looking at her curly hair. She won't let me play with it unless she's asleep.

Nom nom nom nom nom nom

Kiernan started laughing and ran to get the phone

It will be a happy day when we don't have an alarm system any more. I'm tired of it going off for no reason.

They found that little 6 year old Vegas boy tonight wandering the streets. I'm wondering if the police will return the poor guy to his family.

Dad update

So, dad called today. Why is that unusual? Because he only calls me when he’s in the hospital. Guess where he is; in the hospital. I asked him why he had been admitted and he said he didn’t know. “So they just started calling random vets and let them know it was their turn to be admitted?” “No, I came to get checked out and they admitted me.” But he still doesn’t know why. “I was having some shortness of breath, that’s all.”

C: Is it because of all the water you’re retaining?
D: No, they’re taking care of that and it’s much better.
C: Is it your hernia?
D: No, it’s not that.
C: Are you going to get your hernia repaired?
D: No, it doesn’t hurt.
C: How can it not hurt, dad. I would think it was getting infected?
D: It doesn’t hurt, it just looks stupid.
C: Maybe it’s your conjoined twin? Why don’t you get it taken care of?
D: Because I cough so much that I’d just end up spreading my guts all over town.
C: Ewww
D: Yeah, all 27 feet of them

The VA has two new doctors from Lithuania and they seem to think it’s *something* and decided to admit him. But he doesn’t know why. I gave him what he called for in the first place which was my sister’s telephone number, told him I loved him and that I’d talk to him later.

And here I sit at work shaking my head. Seriously, I don't know what keeps him going.

Sick at home--day 2

Yesterday I didn't have a voice. Today I have a voice but am really dizzy. No fun :(

Blood and bones

Lexy has moved from blood to bones. What are bones? What is inside and what are they made of? She's told me a few times they're full of blood but today she told me they had seeds in them (in addition to blood). Oh yeah? Why do they have seeds? So they can grow! Very smart.

Obama is coming to the UNR quad tomorrow. The quad must be a Secret Service nightmare.
Lexy is very interested in blood, hers to be specific. She wants to know where it comes from and why she has it

We visited a new baby babboon tonight and I can't believe I didn't take any pictures.

Who *is* that mysterious belly dancer?

This was after she dragged the veil all over the floor

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

We just received a HUGE bag of fresh peaches! YUM!

All done with her shots

She does not care for the doctor now. She is never ever, ever going there again.
Lexy's getting shots today and I didn't have the heart to tell her. Luckily, Mike is going to take her so I don't have to see the needles

Lexy is in the back seat singing Diarrhea Diarrhea Diarrhea. Huh?

Tuesday, September 09, 2008

This morning my scale read 162. That's 30 pounds lighter than this time last year :)

Wednesday, September 03, 2008

"I want a hot air balloon!" Lexy demanded this morning. "I want one NOW!" Yes, Verruca.

Tuesday, September 02, 2008

Nevada is such a funny place. This time last year it was still blazing hot from sun up to sun down. I had to wear a sweatshirt this morning.

Princess Lexy heading home from Gwamma's

The Pillow Master

My mother can't play Uno

I have to give her a little credit (she had been drinking quite a bit) but my mother can't play Uno. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNO_(game) She says there's no strategy to the game but if the suit is blue and you don't have any blue cards, don't use your wild card to change the color to blue. And that being said, don't do it multiple times. Uno is a fun game but hysterical when you play it with her.
